Americans with Disabilities Act Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan

About the Project

Planning for Accessibility

The final Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan was adopted by the Board of Directors on September 28, 2023.

The Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority is committed to ADA compliance across the agency. The ADA Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan project evaluates the Open Space Authority’s public-serving facilities, programs and services and activities for compliance with accessibility standards, pursuant to the Federal ADA Title II and Section 504.

The Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan recommends improvements to the Open Space Authority’s policies, practices or procedures that deny or limit access and provide a phased approach for the removal of physical barriers at Open Space Authority preserves and other facilities.

The development and implementation of the ADA Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan aligns with the Open Space Authority’s values of Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Access (JEDIA) in connecting people to nature. The outcomes of the Transition Plan will create more inclusive places and ways for the public to engage with the Open Space Authority.

Project Goals

  • Identify applicable accessibility regulations and guidelines.
  • Identify physical barriers in Open Space Authority’s facilities that limit the accessibility of individuals with disabilities.
  • Describe methods and cost to make facilities accessible.
  • Produce schedule and phasing for accessibility improvements and barrier removal.
  • Review programs, services and communications and make recommendations for ongoing improvement.
  • Engage and seek feedback from the public and accessibility advocates.
