Coyote Meadows Park Community Planning
Keep Coyote Creek Beautiful
About the Project
The Open Space Authority helped fund Keep Coyote Creek Beautiful's "Coyote Meadows Park Community Planning and Concept Project." In the heart of the City of San José, Coyote Meadows (formerly known as an unhoused encampment named "The Jungle") is a nearly 50-acre parcel of land designated as open space owned by the City of San José along Coyote Creek. This land is a linchpin for connecting the community in an east-west and north-south route as a trail corridor. With this grant, the project conducted more than a dozen community meetings to solicit feedback, walking tours of the area and weekend clean-up trips. The project resulted in a comprehensive report on how the city could transform this area into a public park, with a well-maintained trail, art spaces, picnic areas and community gardens and other amenities.
“This grant has provided a chance to enable grassroots community planning to create an open space park and trails in an urban community, connecting residents to nature right here in downtown San José.”
