About the Project

“One of the most impactful moments of the EATING project occurred during the first week of school when students returned to campus. Their excitement and curiosity about the newly created outdoor spaces were heartwarming.”

Angeline Ruiz , Santa Clara Unified School District

Supported by the Open Space Authority, the Equitable Access Through Implementing Native Gardens (EATING) project is aimed at providing socio-economically disadvantaged, English Language Learners and Specialized Education students with outdoor environmental classrooms at Scott Lane and Pomeroy Elementary Schools. EATING offers multiple benefits, including habitat preservation, education and social justice. This grant funded the purchase of materials, equipment and community partners' engagement to achieve the project milestones, including ongoing monitoring and maintenance of the outdoor classrooms.
