Growing Our Urban Roots Youth Education Program
Garden to Table Silicon Valley
About the Project
Supported by the Open Space Authority, Garden to Table Silicon Valley's "Growing Our Urban Roots" Youth Education Program provides a hands-on learning opportunity for students to step into leadership roles, become environmental stewards and build community resilience. The program empowers middle school and high school students as leaders in their community to grow food sustainability while providing mentorship and teaching opportunities for our next generation.
"The youth came for three workshops, each centered on planting different vegetables but also providing time for the youth to interact with the chickens and enjoy being in a natural space. As with all of our programs, these visits end with a guided harvest, and a participant was enthusiastic about being able to bring food home because “food is so expensive,” while another was excited to learn that broccoli is a flower."
