Lake Cunningham: Wetland & Restoration Shoreline

City of San José

About the Project

Supported by the Open Space Authority, the City of San Jose is conducting the “Design and Environmental Review for an Emergent Wetland” to improve water quality and reduce overland fertilizer and waste inflows into Lake Cunningham. The City has reserved funds for future construction of the 1-acre prototype project that would transition under-utilized recreational turf to a wetland landscape. This project is intended to restore the historic landscape from the late 1800s.

The project addresses three goals, 1) improve water quality through natural filtering processes, 2) offer visual amenity for existing walking trails along lake, and 3) advance Department’s Strategic Goal of “Nature” through restoration of habitat.
