Nido Neighborhood Reforestation

City of Campbell

About the Project

The Open Space Authority contributed funds towards the City of Campbell's "Nido Neighborhood Reforestation Project," which added 116 new trees in a disadvantaged neighborhood in Central Campbell. The project planted new, drought tolerant trees that increase the quality of life for neighborhood residents, decrease crime and reduce traffic speeds. These trees also help decrease storm water runoff, remove pollution from the air and reduce urban heat.

"During the actual planting we found that some of the residents came out of their homes to thank the volunteers for planting a tree in front of their home. Quickly the residents explained that they planned to take good care of 'their tree.' This sense of ownership and 'buy in' from the residents was one of our goals."
