Small Scale Urban and Peri-urban Agriculture Report
Santa Clara County Food System Alliance
About the Project
The Open Space Authority contributed funds to the Santa Clara County Food System Alliance's "Small Scale Urban and Peri-urban Agriculture in Santa Clara County Report." The report highlights potential models for creating successful small-scale agricultural operations and identifies marketing and distribution systems that expand healthy food access by linking a viable urban and peri-urban agricultural system to residents of Santa Clara County, particularly underserved communities. The report also provides recommendations illustrating how to implement potentially successful models in the county. The data and recommendations in the report are used by policymakers, elected officials, partner organizations and small farmers.
“I think this work will help educate people in Santa Clara County about how important agriculture is. Many see agriculture as part of our past, but they don’t see it as something that could be part of our future.”
