Projects Funded by Our Grant Programs

The Open Space Authority's Grant Programs help connect people to nature in their neighborhoods by funding urban projects and programs throughout our jurisdiction. Learn more information about these projects located throughout Santa Clara Valley below.

Grant Projects

The Open Space Authority helped to fund the development and construction of an outdoor classroom and the installation of interpretive signage and trails at the Our City Forest Urban Forestry Educational Site at Martial Cottle Park in San José.

The Open Space Authority contributed funds to help Bay Area Wilderness Training continue to expand services in Santa Clara County by conducting more outdoor leadership training courses, including full scholarships for South Bay focused leaders.

The Open Space Authority helped fund the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council’s feasibility study to consider and identify a preferred Ridge Trail alignment between Santa Teresa County Park and the Coyote Creek Trail as part of ongoing efforts to fix the South Bay “trail-gap.”

The Open Space Authority contributed funds to Guadalupe River Park Conservancy’s field trip program that allows for inquiry-based learning. The program is committed to getting children outdoors and uses Guadalupe River Park & Gardens' river, rose garden and orchard as an outdoor lab.

The Open Space Authority helped fund Living Classroom’s Garden-Based Instruction in the Campbell School District, providing top quality, engaging garden-based learning experiences in the areas of science, nutrition, math and social studies for at least 1,200 K-3 students at five Campbell schools.

The Open Space Authority helped to fund the San Francisco Bay Wildlife Society’s Tai Chi and Family Yoga, which provided weekly and monthly programming to Bay Area families.

The Open Space Authority helped fund Bay Area Older Adults’ "Environmental Education Park Crawl" program. The project consisted of eight four-hour walks in different parks and one wildlife lecture.

The Authority contributed funds to help Bay Area Wilderness Training expand its services in Santa Clara County to conduct South Bay focused outdoor leadership training courses, bolster partnerships in Santa Clara County and provide outdoor trip support though the Milpitas free Gear Library.
